No. 16 MBU Softball Takes Three of Four from No. 13 LSU Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, La. – No. 16 Missouri Baptist University softball took two from No. 13 Louisiana State University Alexandria on Saturday to win the weekend series 3-1.

Game 1
LSU Alexandria opened the scoring in the second inning on a run that crossed following a caught stealing play, then added another run in the third to take a 2-0 lead.

MBU answered in the fifth inning with a decisive rally. Jack Dees doubled to right-center to score Makayla Johnson, and Alexi Sanchez followed with an RBI single to tie the game. A walk by Allison Leigraf gave the Spartans the lead before Camryn Kessler lifted a sacrifice fly and Emily Wright added an RBI single to cap the five-run frame and make it 5-2.

The Spartans extended the lead in the sixth when Brooklynn Fischer doubled home Jacie Dees. MBU added two more runs in the seventh on Kessler's two-run home run to right-center.

LSU Alexandria mounted a late push in the seventh with three runs, but Kaylie Brake entered with two outs and struck out the final batter to secure the win.

Zoe Flath earned the victory after allowing five runs (four earned) over 6.2 innings, while Brake recorded the final out in relief.

Game 2
LSU Alexandria struck first in the third inning with three runs, highlighted by a two-run home run, and added another run in the fourth to build a 4-1 lead.

MBU answered in the fifth inning. Brooklynn Fischer doubled home two runs before Miranda Ladson delivered an RBI single to tie the game at four.

LSU Alexandria regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an unearned run, but the Spartans responded in the sixth. Allison Leigraf tied the game with a solo home run before Fischer drew a bases-loaded walk and Alexi Sanchez added a sacrifice fly to give the Spartans a 7-5 advantage.

The Generals cut the deficit to one in the seventh with a solo home run, but Kaylie Brake worked out of trouble to close out the victory.

Brake went the distance for MBU, allowing six runs (five earned) while striking out three to earn his third win of the season.
