ST. LOUIS - Missouri Baptist University women's lacrosse closed out the regular season in commanding fashion Wednesday afternoon, earning a 29-0 victory over Mount Mercy University to carry momentum into postseason play.
The Spartans (10-5, 5-1) wasted little time establishing control, striking for seven goals in the opening quarter while holding the Mustangs without a shot. Missouri Baptist continued to dictate the pace in the second, adding another seven goals to take a 14-0 lead into halftime behind an efficient offense and strong draw control.
MBU showed no signs of slowing after the break, tacking on eight goals in the third quarter and seven more in the fourth to complete the shutout. The Spartans finished with a decisive advantage in shots (42-1), draw controls (28-3), and ground balls (16-8), consistently winning possession and limiting Mount Mercy's opportunities throughout the contest.
Skyler Morrissey led all scorers with seven goals, pacing the offense. Delaney Pechnik followed with four goals, while Marissa Oldham and Alexis Taylor each added three. Sophia Rose, Madison Terrell, Ella Isgrigg, Emma Redd, Bella McMillan, and JaHyghness Ward all had contributions to the offense as well.
Defensively, the Spartans were just as sharp, holding Mount Mercy to a single shot attempt on the day. The defensive unit applied consistent pressure, forcing turnovers and quickly transitioning into the offensive end. Missouri Baptist goalkeepers combined to secure the shutout.
With the win, Missouri Baptist concludes its regular season schedule on a high note and locks in a berth in the conference postseason tournament. The Spartans clinched the second seed and have received a bye to the semifinals in the postseason tournament. Semifinals will be hosted at Benedictine College on Thursday, April 30.
