Box Score 4 The MBU softball team went 5-1 in a six-game home stand last week, making a sweep of NCAA Division III opponents, before splitting in their first American Midwest Conference series of the season.
The Lady Spartans opened the week on Wednesday, sweeping Illinois College in six innings each contest. MBU took game one 10-2, and game two 9-1. On Friday, MBU once again made quick work of its opponent, beating MacMurray College in back-to-back five inning games. The Lady Spartans won by a score of 11-1 in each contest.
On Saturday, MBU opened AMC play for the season against Williams Baptist College. The Lady Spartans split with the Lady Eagles. WBC took game one 6-3. MBU bounced back from the loss to command game two 8-2.
Senior Jenny Kemp pitched for a win in each of the series, throwing 10 strikeouts and allowing just four runs. Freshman
Danielle Bayer dominated at the plate for MBU, recording 11 hits in 19 at-bats, for a .579 batting average. She drove in six runs and scored five times.
The Lady Spartans will continue AMC play on Monday, when they host Stephens College in a 2:00 p.m. double header.
