ST. LOUIS, Mo.- The Missouri Baptist women's team suffered another tough loss at the hands of the Missouri Valley Lady Vikings, falling 4-1. In the last two games, the Spartans have been outscored 9-2.
After a tough conference loss against Park University, the Spartans were looking to forget that game and start fresh. Like Park, the Lady Vikings started quick getting a penalty shot in the seventh minute. Yesica Hernandez scored her fifth goal on the season, giving MVU the 1-0 lead and Missouri Valley was able to hold that lead until halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Vikings continued the offensive attack and it paid off in the 61st minute, as Emily Lock extended the lead to 2-0. Less than four minutes later, Hernandez added her second of the game and sixth on the season, giving the Lady Vikings a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Spartans continued to try and get something going offensively, but the Missouri Valley defense was having none of it. Then, in the 85th minute, Kayla Clark put the game out of reach for Missouri Baptist, pushing the lead to 4-0. MBU's Anna Recer, was finally able to get the team on the board with a goal in the 89th minute.
The goal, however, was too little too late for Missouri Baptist, as the team fell by three goals. In the game, MBU was outshot 17-5, as Hernandez led the way scoring the two goals on six shots for the Lady Vikings.
The teams' record falls to 4-10-1, but will look to climb in the American Midwest Conference standings against a William Woods team that is in fifth in the standings, while the Spartans stand in sixth. Kick-off will start at WWU at 3:00 p.m. on October 20th.
