SPARTANS WIN THRILLER IN FINAL SECONDS

St. Louis, Mo. - The Missouri Baptist women's basketball team not only put an end to their 11 game losing streak, but earned their first conference win in a thriller over Harris-Stowe.

Even though the Spartans shot 35% from the field in the first half, the team forced 10 Harris-Stowe turnovers. Missouri Baptist jumped out to a 19-10 lead after a Lauren Taylor three pointer, forcing the Hornets to slow down the up-tempo offense of MBU. The Hornets were able to pick up their own offense and defense, going on a 15-6 run to tie the game at the half 25-25.

The second half was full of momentum changes for both teams. Janelle Hensold made it 36-30 Spartans, just six minutes into the half, in hopes of putting away the pesky Hornets. Harris-Stowe continued to fight with Missouri Baptist and took a 54-52 lead, with 1:20 left on the clock.

Hensold, with under a minute left evened the score up at 54-54. The team got a huge defensive stop and with 0:19 seconds left called a time out for one final play. Senior Chelsea Prosser, got free down low on a feed from Andrea Seabaugh and scored the game winning layup for the 56-54 win.

Lauren Taylor led the way with 11 points on 5-11 shooting. Along with the winning basket, Chelsea Prosser scored 10 points and six rebounds. The Hornets were led by KeAris Vaughn with 18 points and five rebounds.

The team will take this momentum and look for their second win in a row at Stephens College on February 11th at 2:00 p.m.
