ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University women's basketball has won six games in a row to punch its ticket to the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament, where it opens against second-seeded Benedictine College Ravens on Wednesday, Feb 25, at 7 p.m.
MBU is coming off a six-game win streak, where they last beat Park University to place themselves seventh in the conference.
The Spartans are led by
Riley Jansen with 14.8 PPG and 7.3 RPG.
Abigail Williams has posted a double-double in the past two games, averaging 9.7 PPG and five RPG.
Paula Puzule is bringing in eight PPG for the team, and
Jenna Plymale pulls down 4.4 RPG for the team.
Benedictine is led by Riley Bruggeman with 17.5 points per game (PPG) and Nicole Storck gaining eight rebounds per game (RPG). They also have four other players who average double digits in PPG: Nicole Storck (11.3), Addie Kane (10.7), Kelli Storck (10.6), and Oen Deters (10.0).
Previously this season, the Spartans played the Ravens and lost 75-48 on Dec. 3. The Ravens held the Spartans to just 18 points in the first half and were led by 20 points from Bruggeman. Williams and Jansen each posted 13 points for the Spartans.
This year's tournament standings in order are MidAmerica Nazarene University, Benedictine College, Grand View College, Culver-Stockton College, Missouri Valley College, Peru State University, Missouri Baptist University, and Central Methodist University.
All quarterfinal matchups of the Heart Tournament will take place Feb. 25, with semifinals to follow on Feb. 28, and the championship on March 3.
