Box Score 2 Kissimmee, Fla. - The Missouri Baptist women's softball team won their first two games in Florida. The team defeated Trinity Christian College 15-9 in eight innings and St. Mary of the Woods College 3-1 in the second game.
It was a wild first game for the Spartans. The team scored 15 runs on 15 hits, with the three-four hitters for MBU going 6-8, with five runs scored. Lindsay Benck and Donyelle DeMarse each went 3-4, with DeMarse scoring four times.
It was a 1-1 game going into the top half of the third, until the Spartans put up five runs in the inning, grabbing a 6-1 lead. Starter Kristen Bennett went four innings giving up just three runs, but walked eight Trinity Christian batters. Missouri Baptist added one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings grabbing a 9-5 lead, going into the bottom of the seventh.
The Trolls battled back, tying the game up 9-9 forcing extra innings. The Spartans however, added six runs in the top of the eighth, gaining plenty of breathing room. Freshman Jena Trombley was able to close the door in the bottom half of the eighth, for the incredible win.
Catcher Miranda Romero was also 3-4, with three runs scored and one RBI. Jenna Bentlage was 1-5, but that one hit was a home run. The junior first baseman added a team high four runs batted in.
The teams' record moves to 6-4 and will play the University of St. Francis tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. The second game of the day is against Spring Arbor University. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
