Box Score 2 Kissimmee, Fla. - The Missouri Baptist softball team defeated Trinity Christian College 2-1, thanks to strong pitching and timely hitting. In game one, the team suffered their first loss in Florida to Valley City State University, falling 2-1.
It was a slow start to the day for Missouri Baptist, as the team managed just two hits on the day, scoring their only run in the bottom of the first. Starter Jena Trombley kept the Spartans in the game all day, throwing a complete game allowing just two runs on seven hits.
The team however, couldn't get any offense going against Valley City State starter Katie McBride, as McBride held MBU to just one hit, while striking out five in seven innings.
In game two, Kellsie Domnitz kept the Trolls bats quiet all day. The freshman pitcher earned a quality win by going six innings, allowing just one run on three hits. Brianna Brugioni pitched very well for Trinity Christian having only one bad inning, but went six innings allowing two runs on three hits.
Missouri Baptist got their only runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The score was tied 0-0, until catcher Miranda Romero hit a two run single, giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead. Domnitz was looking for the complete game shutout, but lost it in the top of the sixth inning. Jena Trombley pitched the seventh inning, shutting down the Trolls and earned the save for the MBU win.
The team continues their busy schedule, when the Spartans play Spring Arbor University on March 15th at 11:00 a.m. The second game of the day starts at 1:00 p.m. against the University of St. Francis.
