Kissimmee, Fla. - The Spartans softball team fell in the first game 7-2 to Spring Arbor University, but rebounded against Saint Francis, for the 5-2 win.

In the first meeting between the two teams, pitcher Jena Trombley and the Spartans shutout Spring Arbor, 7-0. In game two, the pitching didn't fare so well. Pitchers Kellsie Domnitz and Kristen Bennett combined going seven innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits.

The Lady Cougars scored six runs in the top of the first inning, forcing the Spartans to play catch-up. The team got one run back in the bottom of the first, but couldn't muster up any runs until scoring again in the bottom of the seventh. Donyelle DeMarse led the team offensively going 2-3, adding one RBI.

It was a much better outcome in the second game for MBU. Trombley got the ball and didn't disappoint. The freshman threw a complete game, allowing 10 hits, but held St. Francis to just two runs. The team was down 1-0 after the first inning, but tied the game in the top of the second. Then, the team added two more runs in the third and one in the fourth, grabbing a 4-2 advantage.

Missouri Baptist added one more run in the sixth, holding on for the win. The Spartans were able to scatter eight hits, leading the way was Megan Wildhaber and Danielle Bayer. Wildhaber went 2-4, with one run scored and one RBI. Bayer also went 2-4 at the plate.

The team plays again tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. against Spring Arbor University. In game two, the Spartans play Lake Erie at 11:00 a.m.
