Box Score 2 Kissimmee, Fla. - The Missouri Baptist softball team left Florida winning the final two games on the schedule. The Spartans defeated Spring Arbor 5-0 in game one and Lake Erie in game two, 12-2.
In the week long trip, the Spartans went 8-2, losing the two games by a combined six runs. After a tough 7-2 loss to the Lady Cougars in their previous matchup, Missouri Baptist put Jena Trombley on the hill. Trombley went six innings, shutting out Spring Arbor, allowing just four hits and striking out four.
The Spartan offense came alive scoring five runs on 11 hits. Lindsay Benck led off in the bottom of the first with a double to deep right. Benck was able to score on a Katie Payne single, giving the team a 1-0 lead. Danielle Bayer made it 2-0 Spartans, with a double of her own, scoring Payne from second.
MBU went on to add one run in the third, one in the fourth and one final run in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Payne led the Spartans at the dish, going 3-3 scoring one run and adding two runs batted in. Donyelle DeMarse added two RBI on the day and Bayer went 2-4 with one RBI.
In game two, Kirsten Bennett pitched very well, going five innings allowing four hits and just one run. The offense continued to roll, scoring 12 runs on nine hits. In the top of the first, the team made a statement, scoring four runs.
Lake Erie was unable to catch up, as the Spartans added three more runs in the fourth and added five in the top of the sixth. Jenna Bentlage was the leader at the plate, going 2-4 with four RBI.
The teams' record moves to 12-6 and will host Columbia College on March 19th. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. Game two is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
