Box Score 2 HANNIBAL, Mo. - In a conference double header matchup against the Hannibal-LaGrange Lady Trojans, the Spartans led by starter Jena Trombley shut out the Lady Trojans for the 5-0 win. In game two, Trombley couldn't pick up the second win on the day as the team fell, 4-2.
Offensively the Spartans totaled five runs on nine hits. The team was able to grab a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. It was all freshman Trombley needed, as the Corona, Calif., native threw a complete game allowing just one hit and striking out two. Missouri Baptist added another run in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth for the victory.
Danielle Bayer and Corey Pitchford each contributed two RBI in game one. Katie Payne went 3-3 with three runs scored for the Spartans. Adding the other RBI on the day went to shortstop Megan Wildhaber, going 2-3 on the day.
Trombley got the ball again in game two, but the outcome turned out to be different. The Lady Trojans grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the same inning, Jenna Bentlage smacked her fifth home run of the year tying the game up at 1-1.
In the second inning, the Spartans grabbed a 2-1 advantage. Hannibal-LaGrange, however, finally scored again on Trombley tying the score at 2-2. That score stayed the same until the top of the seventh, as the Lady Trojans pushed across two runs taking a 4-2 lead. Starter Jordan Hawker held down Missouri Baptist in the seventh, for the win.
After a strong game one offensively, the team managed just four hits in game two. Lindsay Benck, Bentlage, Payne and Natalie Aubuchon each added one hit. Trombley did what she could on the mound, throwing a complete game allowing four runs on eight hits.
The teams' record moves to 27-12 and will look to take two from St. Mary of the Woods College on March 14th. First pitch will be thrown at 2:00 p.m.
