Box Score COLUMBIA, Mo. - After splitting the first two games, the Missouri Baptist softball team looked to pull the upset in the American Midwest Conference tournament, against Columbia. The Cougars were able to move on however, with an 8-0 victory, in six innings.
In a rematch of game one, both teams sent their aces to the mound in this all important game. Things didn't go as planned for starter Jena Trombley, as the freshman was roughed up allowing eight runs on 15 hits.
The Cougars came out on fire, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, putting Missouri Baptist on their heels. Columbia continued to put on the pressure, adding two more runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth for the shutout win. Starter Jordan Crisp was nearly untouchable for the Cougars, striking out two in the outing and holding the Spartans to three hits.
Columbia had six players with at least two hits or more, as Megan Thurman led the way going 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. First baseman Morgan Bounds led the team with three RBI. Megan Wildhaber, Lindsay Benck and Danielle Bayer each had one hit for the Spartans.
The teams' season comes to a close with a final record of 33-18, which is fantastic for such a young team. The Spartans lose important senior Lindsay Benck, but return the rest of the starters and keep the rotation intact.
