ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri Baptist University made it 15 in a row, extending an historical run as the team beat St. Louis College of Pharmacy Thursday, 3-0.
Missouri Baptist (15-0, 5-0 AMC) looked like an entirely different team from Tuesday's match with Culver-Stockton College. From the first set, it was apparent that the team was focused. The Spartans looked slightly sluggish in the beginning, but quickly turned it on. The team was tied at nine early, when Molly DeClue rattled off five consecutive points, including two aces, to make it 14-9
After a timeout by the Eutectics, MBU continued to shine. The Spartans allowed College of Pharmacy just five more points in the set as they went on to a 25-14 win.
The second set was more of the same. The Eutectics took a 1-0 lead, but that would be the final time they would find themselves on top in the set. Maddy Hammack was a force on the outside, taking advantage of almost every attack opportunity, leading MBU to a 25-17 victory.
As the third set got underway, the Spartans looked poised for another three-game sweep. Bridget Laughlin came into the match and served for four consecutive points, giving MBU a 6-2 advantage. The Eutectics, however, returned the favor.
College of Pharmacy went on a four-point run of their own to take a 14-11 lead. Coming down the stretch, however, the Spartans just had enough firepower to finish-off the Eutectics with a 25-21 win.
Missouri Baptist improved to 15-0 on the season and will play the always tough, McKendree Bearcats on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m. at McKendree.
