ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] On senior night at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex, the Missouri Baptist women's volleyball team came to play. The squad dominated the pace from start to finish against American Midwest Conference opponent Harris Stowe in a 3-0 sweep in the final home match of the regular season.
Missouri Baptist (25-5, 8-1 AMC) took full advantage 12 Harris Stowe attack errors and five ball handling errors to preserve the win on home court.
MBU allowed the Hornets a -.037 attack percentage in the first set and never looked back. The Spartans produced a .435 attack percentage of their own for the match, in the win.
Coach Chris Nichols went with four senior starters: Kayleigh Cox, Tina DeBarry, Maddy Hammack and Madeline Nesbit, but quickly subbed-in Laura King for serving duties in the first set. King, who has spent much of the 2013 season as an injury scratch, is one of just two four year players on the team (Madeline Nesbit the other).
On a night that surrounded a celebration of senior accomplishments, it was fitting that a senior led the way. Maddy Hammack, the outside hitter from St. Louis led the charge for MBU with 13 kills, seven digs, a .545 attack percentage and a career-high five service aces. Madeline Nesbit posted eight kills with one solo block on the night.
Jasmine Land was the standout for the Hornets on the night. The freshman transfer from Lindenwood-Belleville recorded seven kills and a service ace on the night.
Missouri Baptist will now head out on the road to face both William Woods and No. 14 Park University next week to wrap-up the 2013 regular season.
