Box Score 2 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Missouri Baptist softball went on the road for a neutral site round robin on Thursday and picked up two wins at the home of Southeast Missouri State. MBU played both Stephens College and Harris-Stowe in American Midwest Conference action and won first 20-0 over Stephens and won the second 8-0 over Harris-Stowe.
Missouri Baptist (9-7) began the day with a victory over the Stephens College Stars as the Spartans bats came alive. The team hit .595 in the first game of the day. Sierra Thompson led the team on the day. The freshman went 4-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Jenna Bentlage was also very good. The senior first baseman posted two triples in the game, a career high.
Megan Wildhaber was also impressive in game one. The Spartan leadoff hitter crossed the plate in each of her five at-bats in the game. Wildhaber went 3-5 in the game.
Game two started much the same for the Spartans. Missouri Baptist posted three runs in the first and took an early lead. Throughout the game, the Spartans relied on the strong pitching effort of Morgan Truitt. The freshman pitcher started game two and was extremely effective, even after throwing two innings against the Stars.
In game one, Truitt struck-out her first four batters faced and continued the success in game two against Harris Stowe. Truitt allowed just 3 hits, struck out four and did not give up any runs in the game on the way to the Spartans' second win of the day.
The Spartans built up a six run lead entering the bottom of the fifth inning, when head coach Craig Walston called on Donyelle DeMarse to pinch hit with the base loaded. DeMarse smashed a walk-off double to right center field which scored two and won the game for MBU 8-0.
In the game, Danielle Bayer also helped out the Spartan offense. Bayer went 2-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. It was a complete team effort as MBU hit .450 for the game.
After both victories today, Missouri Baptist moves to 9-7 on the season and 4-4 in the AMC. The Spartans look to continue the strong play this Saturday at Benedictine University. The first pitch of the double header is set for 12:00 p.m.
