ST. LOUIS – [Box Score] The Missouri Baptist women's volleyball squad continued to roll, as the Spartans defeated Harris-Stowe in straight sets, 25-12, 25-12, and 25-17. The Spartans improved to 19-1 on the season and stayed undefeated in American Midwest Conference play by moving to 6-0.
Missouri Baptist hit an impressive .364 in the contest, knocking down 42 kills on 88 swings. The Spartans added nine service aces, three solo blocks, and six block assists in the contest.
Freshman Kristina Medanovic led the Spartans over the three sets. She was extremely efficient, posting 15 kills and zero errors on 22 swings for an attack percentage of .682. Medanovic also had three service aces, and three block assists.
Junior Taylor Cook recorded 10 swings and just two errors on 21 swings. She added a service aces and four digs.
Junior Ally Krus led the Spartans with 36 assists over the three sets. She chipped in a service ace, one kill, five digs, and one solo block.
Junior Haley Pouliezos led Missouri Baptist with 25 digs, and also posted two service aces and four assists.
In set one, MBU hit .600, firing 17 kills on 25 swings with just two errors. Hannah Carey, who played just one set, led the Spartans with seven kills on eight swings. She added three service aces and one dig in the set.
Harris-Stowe cut the MBU lead to 5-4 early in set one, but the Spartans exploded for a 13-1 run to extend its lead to 18-5. The navy and white never allowed the Hornets to get back into the set as MBU ended the set on top, 25-12.
Set two was more of the same for the No. 18 Spartans. They never allowed the Hornets to get into a groove, and used an impressive 9-1 run to end the set with the 25-12 victory.
Missouri Baptist hit .464 in the frame, posting 15 kills and two errors on 28 swings. The Spartans forced the Hornets into a -0.179 attack percentage with only two kills.
The final set of the match saw MBU hit .114 in the game, as the Spartans blasted 10 kills on 35 swings. Harris-Stowe held the lead for most of the set and MBU didn't take its final lead of the set until the score reached 16-15. The Spartans took over from there, and ended the match on a 10-2 run to defeat the Hornets, 25-17.
Missouri Baptist will travel to Lebanon, Ill. on Wednesday to take on NCAA Division II opponent, McKendree University.
