Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [Game One Box Score] [Game Two Box Score] The Missouri Baptist softball team struggled to score runs in today's doubleheader, dropping both contests to Auburn-Montgomery. The Spartans lost game one, 2-0, and dropped the second game in five innings, 9-0.
In game one, pitcher Andrea Chessor pitched well enough to earn the victory. She scattered seven hits over six innings, and gave up just two runs, while striking out four.
The Spartan offense struggled to get to the home team pitcher, Cassie Daniels. She struck out 13 Spartans, while giving up just one hit.
Kelsey Snider had the lone hit for MBU, a leadoff single in the fourth inning, but fell victim to an inning-ending strike em out-throw em out.
In the seventh inning, the Spartans got the tying run to the plate after a leadoff walk by Donyelle DeMarse. MBU was unable to move the runner over, and ended the contest without a run.
In game two, the Warhawks dominated on both sides of the field. Missouri Baptist was only able to get one hit at the plate.
Jena Trombey started in the circle for the Spartans. She escaped a disaster first inning after walking the bases loaded. Trombley recorded a groundout and a strikeout to start the game, but walked the next three batters. She got an inning ending fly out to keep the Warhawks off the board.
Auburn-Montgomery scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning and exploded for seven run in the fourth inning to take a 9-0 lead.
Megan Medcalf singled to left field to lead off the top of the fourth inning, but the Spartans stranded her on second base and MBU would be held scoreless.
Missouri Baptist went 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth inning, activating the mercy rule.
Trombley would be tagged with the loss in the game after pitching 3.2 innings. She allowed nine runs, seven earned, on eight hits. She struck out three batters, but walked six. Morgan Truitt recorded the final out of the inning and recorded a strikeout and a walk.
The Spartans will take on Huntingdon College in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm
