Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. LOUIS – [Game 1 Box Score] [Game 2 Box Score] After dropping two games the day before, the Missouri Baptist softball team swept Mid-Continent in a doubleheader today, 10-0 and 12-4. The Spartans got timely hitting and great pitching to set the tone for the day.

Missouri Baptist (8-10, 2-2 AMC) got excellent pitching from freshman Andrea Chessor in game one. She threw her first complete game shutout of her career, scattering three hits over five innings. She struck out a career-high six batters in the contest and kept the Mid-Continent hitters off-balance all game.

At the plate, nine different Spartans recorded hits. Mariah Randazzo led MBU at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Amanda Williams also went 2-for-3 and had an RBI double. Kelsey Snider and Megan Medcalf scored twice for the Spartans.

In the 1st inning, the Spartans plated three runs on one hit. Kelsey Snider smacked a one-out single in the infield and stole second base. After Medcalf walked, the Cougars made three errors that scored the Spartans runs.

The 4th inning proved to be the difference maker. Payton Anderson led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on Sierra Thompson's sacrifice bunt. After head coach Craig Walston brought Chelsea Crain in to pinch run for Anderson, she moved to third on Brittany Edelen's infield single. Edelen noticed that no one was covering second base, so she sprinted over to the bag, setting up second and third. Donyelle DeMarse roped a single to right field, scoring Crain and Edelen. Kelsey Snider re-entered the game for DeMarse to run and steal second base. She would score a couple pitches later on Megan Medcalf's single to shallow right field. Andrea Chessor then singled to left, which moved Medcalf to second. Mariah Randazzo singled down the left field line to score Medcalf and move Chessor to second. Amanda Williams doubled to deep left field, scoring Chessor and putting Randazzo on third. Payton Anderson drove in the sixth and seventh runs of the inning on a line drive to deep center.

In the top of the 5th inning, Mid-Continent put a runner on second with two outs, but the Spartans ended the game with a run-down put out.

The second game featured even more runs for Missouri Baptist. The Spartans pounded 15 hits, four doubles and two home runs en route to the series sweep.

Mariah Randazzo went 3-for-4, with three runs scored and two doubles. Payton Anderson also went 3-for-4, and had two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored. Donyelle DeMarse went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two home runs. Deanna Peters and Brittany Edelen each went 2-for-3. Edelen had two RBI.

Jena Trombley earned the victory on the mound. She threw 5.0 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits. She struck out five and walked two.

Edelen led off the contest with an infield single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kelsey Snider. Edelen stole third, which allowed Medcalf to hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Edelen.

In the top of the 3rd, Missouri Baptist added three more runs on five hits. Randazzo led off the inning with a single to left and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Thompson. Anderson's double to left scored Randazzo for the first run of the inning. Anderson moved to third on Deanna Peters' infield single. She moved to second when the middle infield did not pay attention, setting up second and third. Edelen's single to center plated both runs, putting the Spartans up 4-0.

Mid-Continent got a run back in the bottom of the 4th inning on a solo home run by Colby Smith.

Missouri Baptist answered back with a solo home run in the top of the 5th on a blast by Donyelle DeMarse. Randazzo then doubled down the left field line and scored on Thompson's single to left. Anderson scored Thompson on a double to deep right-center. MBU added another run when Peters singled to second base, and an error on the throw allowed Anderson to score.

MCU added another run in the bottom half of the 5th on an RBI groundout.

The top of the 6th for the Spartans was another big inning, as MBU added four more runs on four hits. Toni Stang recorded her first hit of the season on a line drive to left field. Megan Mecalf walked to set up first and second for DeMarse. She unleashed on a pitch, sending the ball over the left field wall for a 3-run homer. Randazzo followed that with a double to deep left-center and scored two batters later on a wild pitch.
