Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [Game 1 Box Score] [Game 2 Box Score] In a day where everyone got to play, the Missouri Baptist softball team swept Harris-Stowe in a doubleheader, 10-0 and 17-0. The Spartans have now won six consecutive games.
Freshman pitcher Andrea Chessor was once again dominant in the circle for the Spartans. She gave up just one hit over four innings of work. She struck out five and walked one before handing the ball over to Morgan Truitt for the final frame. Truitt retired the side in order to preserve the 10-0 victory.
Kelsey Snider beat out the throw to first to get things started for MBU in the 1st inning. She stole second and then scored on a double to deep left-center by Mariah Randazzo. Megan Medcalf followed with a single up the middle to plate Randazzo.
Missouri Baptist (12-10, 4-2 AMC) added four more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, highlighted by Randazzo's two RBI single to left. Medcalf roped a double down the left field line to score Snider and Randazzo, giving the Spartans a 6-0 lead after two complete innings.
The bottom of the 4th inning featured an incredible feat for a Spartan. The Spartans already had scored two runs in the inning and head coach Craig Walston brought Darrian Chrzanoski in to pinch-hit. She unloaded on a pitch, which landed 20 feet over the fence in left-center. It was Chrzanoski's first career hit.
Morgan Truitt finished off the Hornets in the bottom of the 5th inning in order to secure the victory.
Megan Medcalf led MBU, going 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and three RBI. Mariah Randazzo also went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI, and she scored twice as well.
The Spartans cracked ten hits in the contest, and roped three doubles.
The second game started with the same momentum from the first game for the Spartans, as they scored three runs in the top of the 1st.
Snider doubled down the left field line to score Brittany Edelen, who reached on a leadoff walk. After an error allowed the Spartans to score its next run, Deanna Peters drove in the third run with a single to center, which scored Mariah Randazzo.
Senior pitcher Jena Trombley allowed three hits over the first five innings, but did not allow the Hornets to post a run.
There was a scary moment in the top of the 4th inning. After Deanna Peters walked to lead off the inning, she attempted to steal second base. The Hornet short stop covered the bag and went to tag Peters, but her momentum forced a collision at the base. Katy Bevins laid on the dirt for nearly 20 minutes, before the paramedics and training staff were able to put her on a stretcher and transport her to the hospital.
In the top of the 6th, the Spartans exploded for 14 runs on 11 hits. Missouri Baptist sent 19 batters to the plate, which featured a handful of substitutions. The inning was highlighted by a three-run bomb off the bat of Payton Anderson, her third long ball of the season. Donyelle DeMarse, who came in to pinch hit in the inning, blasted a long drive over the fence in left-center for a solo shot.
Morgan Truitt pitched the final frame, recording two strikeouts.
Missouri Baptist poked 15 hits in the game, including two doubles and two home runs. Kelsey Snider went 3-for-5 in the contest, driving in four RBI, and scored three times. Payton Anderson went 1-for-2 with four RBI, a home run, and a run scored. Donyelle DeMarse finished game with two hits in five at-bats, and had a two-run homer.
The Spartans will travel to Jefferson City, Mo. to take on Lincoln University in a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow.
