Box Score 4 ST. LOUIS – After guiding the Missouri Baptist softball team to a 5-1 record, leadoff hitter Brittany Edelen has been named AMC Player of the Week.
Edelen led the Spartans with a .467 batting average on the week. The speedy lefty hitter had seven hits in 15 at-bats. The junior from St. Peters, Mo. scored four times, and had three RBI. She came into the week without an extra base hit, but managed to rope two triples. The table-setter did not strike out during the week and led the Spartans with three stolen bases in three attempts.
In the first non-conference game of the week, Edelen went 2-for-4 with two RBI against Lindenwood-Belleville. She swiped one base in the game.
In the Hannibal-LaGrange doubleheader, Edelen went a combined 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two triples. She hit two triples in the first game of the doubleheader, leading the team with a 3-for-3 performance. She also stole a base in game one.
In the weekend finale, Edelen went a combined 1-for-5 against Benedictine-Springfield. She scored a run and stole a base in game one.
For the season, Edelen leads the Spartans with a .390 batting average, going 32-for-82. She has scored 19 times, roped two triples, driven in six RBI, and leads the team with 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts.
The Spartans are 18-12 on the season and 8-2 in conference play. MBU has won eight straight conference games.
