LYNX SWEEP SOFTBALL IN NON-CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER

ST. LOUIS – [Game 1 Box Score] [Game 2 Box Score] The tough stretch for the Missouri Baptist softball team has continued, as the Spartans dropped both games to Lindenwood-Belleville, 6-1 and 6-5. The losses make it six straight for the Spartans and seven of the last eight games.

It has been a season of streaks for the 2014 squad. After winning the first three games of the season, the Spartans lost 8-of-9 games. MBU won the next seven straight games and 18-of-23.

Missouri Baptist (23-20) had just three hits in game one. Payton Anderson (1-for-3, RBI), Amanda Williams (1-for-3, run scored), and Andrea Chessor (1-for-2, double) each had hits in the loss.

Chessor took the loss in the circle. She gave up six runs, five earned, on seven hits over six innings. Chessor struck out two and walked two.

The Spartans found themselves in a big hole after the Lynx scored three in the 3rd and three in the 4th to take a 6-0 lead.

Missouri Baptist added one run in the 7th when Anderson singled home Williams, but the Spartans could not close the gap.

In game two, the Spartans jumped on the board with a four-spot in the 1st inning.

Lindenwood-Belleville answered with one run in the bottom of the frame, and scored two more in the bottom of the 3rd.

Missouri Baptist extended its lead with a run in the top of the 4th to take a 5-3 lead.

The Lynx tied the contest at 5-5 with two runs in the bottom of the 5th and won the contest on a walk-off in the 7th.

Morgan Truitt was charged with the loss. She came in relief and tossed 2.0 innings of work. She gave up one run on two hits.

Jena Trombley started the contest and gave up five earned runs on six hits over 4.2 innings.

Missouri Baptist stroked ten hits in the contest. Anderson led MBU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, and two RBI. Mackenzie Friedly went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double. Katie Alexander went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Donyelle DeMarse went 2-for-4 with a double, while Brittany Edelen went 2-for-4.

The Spartans have a make-or-break weekend ahead of them. They travel to take on the Scots of Lyon College on Friday. The Scots are 7-11 in conference play. On Saturday, the Spartans travel to Williams Baptist for a noon doubleheader. The Eagles are 8-6 in AMC play and 6th in the standings. Missouri Baptist, 11-7 AMC, is 5th in the standings and within reaching distance of Freed-Hardemann.
