ST. LOUIS – [AMC Bracket] The American Midwest Conference office released the 2014 softball conference tournament bracket, today. Missouri Baptist is tagged as the sixth seed.
The Spartans (23-24, 11-11 AMC) will travel to No. 3 seed Park (34-8, 18-4 AMC) on Friday in a best of three series.
The Pirates have been dominant all season long, but the Spartans were a few breaks away from sweeping the regular season series. In game one, the Pirates won 4-3 in eight innings after scoring two runs in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game. In game two, Missouri Baptist scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to send the game into extra innings, but the Pirates won the game 8-5 in ten innings.
Brittany Edelen leads Missouri Baptist with a .397 batting average. She has 50 hits in 126 at-bats, has scored 29 times, and has swiped 17-of-20 bases in 43 games. Payton Anderson is hitting .353 (42-for-119) with a team-high five home runs and 39 RBI.
Jena Trombley (2.57 ERA, 10-8 W-L, 122.1 innings, 57 strikeouts) and Andrea Chessor (2.81 ERA, 14-13 ERA, 149.2 innings, 91 strikeouts) anchor the MBU pitching staff.
The winner of the series will take on the winner of No. 2 Columbia College and No. 7 Benedictine-Springfield.
