Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [Game 1 Box Score] [Game 2 Box Score] After dropping the first contest to Park, 8-2, the Missouri Baptist softball team needed a victory to keep its season alive. The Spartans did just that, winning game two, 2-1, and sending the best of three series into the decisive third game.
Missouri Baptist (25-26) had just three hits in game one. Sierra Thompson had two of those hits, and she went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double. Mariah Randazzo (1-for-2, run scored, double) had the other hit.
Andrea Chessor started the game and went just 3.0 innings. She gave up seven earned runs on seven hits to pick up the loss. Jena Trombley pitched the final 3.0 innings. She gave up one run on two hits.
Park scored seven times in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take command of the contest.
In game two, the Spartans scored twice in the bottom of the 1st inning, which proved to be enough for starting pitcher Andrea Chessor.
She tossed all seven innings, giving up one earned run on seven hits. Chessor gave up one run in the 6thinning, but was able to keep the Pirates off the board for a second run.
Payton Anderson went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI to lead MBU. Amanda Williams went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
The Spartans and Pirates will play game three on Saturday afternoon to decide who moves on in the American Midwest Conference Tournament. A loss will end the season for MBU.
