SOFTBALL POSTSEASON RUN ENDS WITH 8-0 LOSS TO PARK

Box Score

ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist softball season came to a disappointing end today, as the Spartans fell to Park, 8-0 in five innings. Park advances in the American Midwest Conference tournament.

Missouri Baptist (25-27) fell behind early, as the Pirates got to starter Andrea Chessor. Park scored three times in the 1st inning and five times in the 2nd inning to gain control.

Head coach Craig Walston brought Jena Trombley into the game to throw the final 2.0 innings. She struck out three, walked one, but did not allow a hit.

Offensively, the Spartans only cracked three hits. Kelsey Snider went 2-for-2 to lead MBU at the plate. Sierra Thompson, who went 1-for-2, had the other hit for the Spartans.

After dropping the first game of the doubleheader yesterday, the Spartans needed a victory to continue its season. They did just that, winning 2-1, setting up the decisive game three.

Since the Pirates held an 8-0 lead after two innings, the mercy rule came into effect, which ended the game after five innings.

Missouri Baptist and Southeast Missouri State are scheduled to play a doubleheader next week, but the Spartans are not expected to play that series. Official word on that game will be made next week.
