PITCHFORD RECORDS SIX RBI IN ONE INNING AS SOFTBALL EARNS SWEEP OVER STEPHENS

ST. LOUIS – [Game 1 Box Score] [Game 2 Box Score] An explosive 17-run inning in game one sparked the Missouri Baptist softball team to sweep Stephens College today, 19-0 and 10-0. The wins push the conference winning streak to 10-straight victories.

Missouri Baptist (20-13, 10-2 AMC) recorded just one hit over the first two innings, but erupted for 17 runs on 18 hits in the 3rd inning. Corey Pitchford had arguably the best inning in the history of the game. She led off the inning with a solo home run to right center, hit a 3-run bomb later in the inning, and then capped off the inning with a 2 RBI triple. Payton Anderson doubled twice in the inning and tallied two RBI. Mariah Randazzo roped two doubles in the inning and recorded and RBI. Andrea Chessor went 2-for-2 in the inning with a double and RBI. Sierra Thompson went 1-for-1 in the inning with a triple, RBI, and a hit by pitch.

Pitcher Andrea Chessor started the game in the circle and was nearly perfect. She did not allow a hit over 3.0 innings of work. The freshman struck out four batters and faced just one over the minimum.

Morgan Truitt entered the game in the bottom of the third inning and allowed just one hit over 2.0 innings of work.

Missouri Baptist added another run in the top of the 4th on a double off the bat of Payton Anderson.

The Spartans scored their final run in the top of the 5th inning after Deanna Peters singled up the middle to score Brittany Edelen.

Corey Pitchford led MBU at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, a triple, three runs scored, and six RBI.  Payton Anderson also went 4-for-4, roped three doubles, had three RBI, and scored twice. Nine Spartans recorded hits in the contest.

In game two, the Spartans wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, as they scored eight runs in the 1st. Brittany Edelen led off the inning with a bunt single and moved to second when nobody covered second. Mariah Randazzo singled home Edelen and moved Deanna Peters to third. Amanda Williams roped a double down the left field line to score Peters and Randazzo. The Spartans scored two more runs when Randazzo singled up the middle, giving MBU an 8-0 lead.

Randazzo gave Missouri Baptist a 9-0 lead when she hit an inside the park home run to lead off the 3rdinning. Williams doubled and scored on Sierra Thompson's sac fly to right, which extended the MBU lead to 10-0.

Starting pitcher Jena Trombley allowed just two hits over 5.0 innings of work, as she picked up the victory. She struck out four and faced just 17 hitters.

Randazzo led the Spartans at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, four RBI, and a home run. Donyelle DeMarse went 3-for-3 with a run scored. The Spartans roped 11 hits in the game, and six different players recorded hits.
