Sioux City, Iowa - [BOX SCORE] The Missouri Baptist women's volleyball team defeated Midland University (Neb.) 3-0 in the NAIA National Championship Tournament Quarterfinal at the Tyson Event Center to advance to the Semifinals for the second time in school history.
Set one the Spartans (38-4) came out ready to play as Taylor Cook notched two service aces right off the bat. MBU started the match with a 6-2 run to take a strong lead. The team maintained that lead for a 25-13 set one victory.
Missouri Baptist recorded its highest hitting percentage of the set at 0.407.
Set two MBU continued its strong attack and with ease finished the set 25-16.
The Spartans held Midland to a negative hitting percentage and six total kills in set two.
Missouri Baptist stepped onto the court hungry for a set three win. Midland fought to stay in the tournament and challenged the Spartans, but after a quick timeout MBU rallied to finished the set 25-19.
MBU recorded 16 total kills in the set, its highest total of the match, compared to Midlands nine.
Mallory Dillon led the Spartans from the outside with 12 kills. Kristina Medanovic and Taylor Cook were also big for the Spartan offense with 11 and 10 kills respectively.
Ally Krus, with a double-double, fed the offense with ease. The St. Louis native recorded 38 assists and 15 digs. The setter averaged 12.7 assists per set.
Haley Pouliezos continued to keep the ball alive for MBU with 20 total digs in the match for an average of 6.7 digs per set.
With the win, the Spartans will advance to the semifinal match. This is the second time in school history that Missouri Baptist has advance to the semifinal round. The last time that MBU advanced to the semifinals was in 2005, where the team lost to Columbia College (Mo.). The Spartans will take the court next on Saturday, December 5, to face No. 2 Viterbo (Wis.) at 11 a.m.
