SOFTBALL GETS BACK ON WINNING TRACK WITH SWEEP OVER HANNIBAL-LAGRANGE

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. LOUIS – [Game One Box] [Game Two Box] The Missouri Baptist softball team bounced back with two dominating victories over Hannibal-LaGrange, defeating the Trojans, 6-1 and 4-1. MBU improves to 20-10 overall, and 11-5 in American Midwest Conference play.

In game one, a two-run second inning was all that the Spartans needed. Mikala Torrence led off the inning with a triple to right-center. She would score when Kara Pochon reached on a fielding error. Pochon would score on a Mariah Randazzo double to deep center.

Spartan starter Jena Trombley went just three innings in the contest, but pitched well. She gave up just one earned run on six hits.

Freshman Madison Calvert tossed the final 4.0 innings in relief to earn the win. She did not allow a run on just two hits. Calvert struck out three batters.

The Spartans added two more runs in the 5th inning and two more insurance runs in the top of the 7th.

Randazzo led the Spartans at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI, and a double.

Freshman Lexi Gray tripled in lone at-bat of the day. She added an RBI on the rope.

Donyelle DeMarse went 2-for-3 in the contest.

In game two, the Spartans put two runs on the board in the top of the first, which allowed sophomore Andrea Chessor to pitch with an early lead.

MBU scored the two runs on one hit and two Trojan errors.

The Spartans added two more runs in the top of the 2nd. Lexi Gray pinch-hit and poked a two-run single to left-center.

Chessor allowed just one unearned run on five hits in seven innings. She tallied six strikeouts in the contest.

MBU poked just five hits in the game, but tallied the rips when they needed. Gray led the Spartans with the two RBI hit. Kelsey Snider, Corey Pitchford, Kara Pochon, and Donyelle DeMarse each added a hit in the game.

The Spartans will travel to Benedictine-Springfield on Saturday as they attempt to creep towards the top three spots in the American Midwest Conference.
