Box Score ST. LOUIS- [BOX SCORE] No. 14 ranked Missouri Baptist Women's Volleyball traveled to Columbia, Mo. on Tuesday night for a conference showdown with the Stephens College Stars. Despite a bumpy first set, the Spartans came away with the sweep to extend their winning streak (25-22, 25-13, 25-17).
Coming off the emotional high of last Friday's win over Columbia, the Spartans started slow in set one and made some uncharacteristic mistakes. Stephens capitalized and had MBU on the ropes at 16-19. After a timeout, Missouri Baptist settled in and took five of the next six points. Mallory Dillon added two late kills to help the Spartans escape the opener 25-22.
MBU refocused after that and overpowered Stephens in the next two sets. In the second set, Missouri Baptist led by as many as 14 on their way to a 25-13 victory. Stephens kept it close for a majority of set three but the Spartans were too much. They pulled away late to claim it 25-17.
Mallory Dillon and Tina Medanovic were once again one and two in the kills department for MBU. Dillon posted 14 kills to edge closer to the Missouri Baptist career record. She now has 1,424 and needs just 63 more to break the record set by Hannah Carey from 2012-2015.
Medanovic, the reigning AMC Attacker of the Week, continued her tear through conference play with 10 kills on just 17 attempts. Over the last three matches, the junior is hitting an outrageous .585.
Megan Huffman registered 34 assists to go along with 10 digs. The redshirt freshman has held her spot as the top setter in the nation with 30+ assists in eight of the last 10 matches.
The Spartans were also hot from the service line on Tuesday, posting eight aces as a team. Kamden Maas led the way with three to set a new career-high.
The ladies will return home to host the Spartan Invitational this coming weekend, October 7 and 8. They'll take on The Masters College (Calif.) (RV) on Friday afternoon at 4 pm. MBU will play two matches back-to-back on Saturday, starting with No. 9 Grandview (Iowa) at 2 pm. The Spartans will then face their toughest test yet as they battle No. 5 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) at 4 pm.
