Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist Softball team opened up its Spring Break trip in Clermont, Fla. Monday afternoon with a split in two one-run games. They opened the day with a 2-1 loss to Concordia (Mich.) before bouncing back and defeating St. Ambrose 6-5.
Andrea Chessor's six strong innings of two-run ball weren't enough in game one against Concordia. The Cardinals used a two-run fifth inning to take the lead after MBU struck first.
The Spartans lone run came in the first inning. Pamela Diaz walked to start the game and later came around to score on an RBI sacrifice fly from Amanda Williams. Peyton Anderson singled in the inning, but MBU would manage just two more hits the rest of the game.
Chessor's stellar performance on the mound kept the navy and white in it, until Concordia broke out for two runs in the fifth. A leadoff walk hurt the Spartan hurler, as the runner eventually came around to tie things up when Amy Trionfi ripped an RBI single. Trionfi then scored two batters later on a Cheyenne Brierley single. The run proved to be the deciding one in the game.
Missouri Baptist then bounced back nicely in their second game of the week, downing St. Ambrose 6-5. The Spartans erupted for six runs in the first three innings and held off the Bees late to secure the win.
Rachel Garcia started the offensive showcase with a one-out double in the first. She came around to score on an RBI single from Williams two batters later to give MBU the early lead.
The Spartans added three more in the second and two in the third. Jenny Sparks tripled to start the second and scored moments later on Macey Wienstroer's RBI single. Chloe Jennings kept the hit parade going with a single and Wienstroer and Jennings both scored later on the inning on a 2-RBI single from Williams.
Sparks and Weinstroer also scored in the third inning to help MBU take a 6-0 lead. Cierra Liddick then allowed only one earned run over the next four innings to earn the win. Three Spartan errors kept St. Ambrose in the game, but Liddick overcame the miscues to give MBU the win.
The Spartans return to action tomorrow against Concordia (Mich.) at noon and Indiana Tech at 2:00.
