SPARTANS RALLY LATE, BUT DROP BOTH GAMES ON DAY TWO

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. LOUIS – The Spartans dropped two close games on day two of the team's Spring Break trip, falling to Concordia (Mich.) 6-3 in game one and 7-5 to Indiana Tech in game two.

Concordia topped the Spartans for the second time in as many days after two team's close 2-1 game on Monday. This game also remained close until the sixth inning when the Cardinals put up four runs.

Concordia scored first but MBU tied the game at 1-1 when Chloe Jennings singled home Deanna Peters in the top of the second. The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead in the fifth and then took advantage of two MBU errors in a four-run sixth.

Cierra Liddick was dealing for MBU until that point and riding momentum from her win on Monday. She did her best to work around the errors, but allowed four runs (two earned) on two hits in the inning. Overall, she allowed seven hits and four earned runs in six innings.

MBU fought back and scored two runs in the seventh, but it wasn't enough. Rachel Garcia singled home a run in the inning and Andrea Chessor had an RBI groundout.

Game two of the day followed a familiar script. The Spartans trailed Indiana Tech 7-0 after five and a half innings before putting a rally together late.

Tech took advantage of an error in the first to go ahead 1-0 and then put up four more runs in the second. They scored four times on four hits, while also taking advantage of two more MBU errors.

The Warriors added single runs in the fifth and sixth to lead by seven. The Spartans, who out-hit Tech 11-7, then put together five runs on seven hits in the final two innings.

Garcia tripled to start the sixth and Chessor brought her home with a sacrifice fly to put MBU on the board. The team's four-run seventh started with back-to-back singles from Macey Wienstroer and Jenny Sparks. Chessor later brought them both home with a 2-RBI double to cut the deficit to 7-3.

RBI singles from Amanda Williams and Jolyn Lake made it a two-run game, but the Spartans couldn't get any closer. Williams continued her fine season with a 5-8 performance at the dish during the day and is now hitting .474 on the season. Lake also pitched in game two and didn't allow a hit in two innings of work.

MBU will look to break its two-game skid tomorrow when it takes on Indiana Tech at 4 Central Time and St. Ambrose at 6:00 Central.
