Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [CONCORDIA BOX] [NORTHWESTERN OHIO BOX] The Missouri Baptist Softball team split its final two games of the Spring Break trip to head home from Clermont, Fla. with a winning record in 10 games.
The Spartans improved to 6-4 on the trip with a 6-2 win over Northwestern Ohio in game two after falling to Concordia (Mich.) 4-0 in game one.
The MBU offense didn't have a runner reach third until the seventh inning and couldn't manage more than one hit in an inning during the morning game. In total, the Spartans had six hits by six different players. Chloe Jennings and Payton Anderson had the team's two doubles in the game.
Cierra Liddick was once again solid on the mound, allowing three earned runs and nine hits in six innings of work. However, Concordia got to her for single runs in the third and fifth and two runs in the sixth, as she took the loss. Samantha Capuzzi led off the third inning with a home run and that proved to be all the Cardinals would need on the day.
However, the Spartans bounced back in their 10th and final game on the trip to defeat Northwestern Ohio 6-2 and leave Florida with a 6-4 overall record. The ladies used a four-run first inning to victory and never looked back.
Jennings started the rally with a double and later scored on an RBI single from Andrea Chessor. Pamela Diaz walked earlier in the inning and Payton Anderson brought both Chessor and Diaz home with her three-run shot over the fence to give MBU the early 4-0 lead.
Northwestern Ohio cut the lead in half in the top of the second, but Chessor held UNOH scoreless in the final five innings to help lead the Spartans to victory. MBU also added two insurance runs in the fifth when Anderson came through again, this time with an RBI single, and by taking advantage of two Northwestern Ohio errors.
After playing the first 18 games of the season away from home, MBU will finally get to play in front of its home crowd on Monday, March 21st when the team takes on Clarke University in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm.
