WIENSTROER'S HOMER GIVES SPARTANS DH SPLIT AGAINST WILDCATS

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. LOUIS – [GAME 1 BOX] [GAME 2 BOX] Macey Wienstroer's three-run home run helped lead Missouri Baptist to a doubleheader split against Culver-Stockton Wednesday afternoon. The sixth-inning bomb jolted the Spartans to a 3-2 win over the Wildcats in game two after falling 4-1 in the opener.

The Wildcats (15-5) appeared to be well on their way to a series sweep, as hurler Sam Bolin no-hit the Spartans (11-11) through the first 5.2 innings of the final game. Sierra Thompson finally broke up the no-no with a two-out single in the sixth. Bolin hit the next batter Jolyn Lake with a pitch bringing up the go-ahead run in Wienstroer with the Spartans trailing 2-0.

The freshman, who had entered into the game as a defensive replacement in the last half-inning, turned out to be the hero with one swing of the bat. Down to her final strike, Wienstroer belted a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence to put MBU ahead 3-2 and shock the home team from Canton, Mo. It was her first home run of the season.

Andrea Chessor toed the rubber for MBU in game two and didn't mess around with the newly-given lead. She set down Culver-Stockton in order in both the sixth and seventh innings to secure the big win and notch the complete game. The righty allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work to pick up the win, while not walking a single batter.

The victory came after Culver-Stockton got the better of MBU in game one. The Wildcats used a three-run fifth inning to break an early tie and eventually win it 4-1. The scoring started in the first when Kim Myers bunted home Andrea Rains, who reached to lead off the inning.

Cierra Liddick blanked the Wildcats in the following three innings and the offense backed her up with a run in the fourth. Pam Diaz walked to start the inning and Payton Anderson followed with a base hit. Amanda Williams bunted both over a base and Chessor tied the game when she launched a fly ball to right to score Diaz.

However, that's all the offense would be able to muster in the game and the inning, leaving things open for the home team. They took advantage of two walks and an error to score three runs in the fifth and march to victory. Avery Johnson scored the eventual winning run when she came around on an error after reaching on a single earlier in the inning.

After a day off, a busy week continues for the navy and white. They travel to Columbia, Mo. to take on both the Columbia Cougars and Stephens College on Friday and Saturday. First pitch against Columbia is set for 2:00 pm.
