Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS -- The Spartans traveled to Parkville, Mo. Friday afternoon to take on the Park Pirates and dropped both games, 3-2, 6-3.
The Spartans fell in a back-and-forth battle in game one. Park battled back after being down to its final out to walk-off a winner 3-2. Britanee Willard started the rally with a single and then stole second base. Brooke Kunkel then won the game with a single to left to score her.
Andrea Chessor had another strong performance, scattering seven hits and three runs in 6.2 innings of work. However, the performance didn't turn out to be enough. The teams traded runs in each inning starting in the bottom of the first when Park got on the board off a single from Shelby Bendure.
The lead was short-lived however, as MBU answered with a run in the next half inning. Sarah Strothkamp doubled home Macey Wienstroer, who pinch ran for Amanda Williams. Williams began the inning with a single.
MBU answered back again when the Pirates went ahead 2-1 in the third. Williams singled to start the inning before being sacrificed over to second. Adrianna Ross followed with a big double to score her and tie the game up again at 2-2.
Allie Reynolds earned the win for Park after allowing two runs and eight hits in seven innings of work. Williams led MBU offensively with a 2-2 performance.
Park jumped out ahead in the second game and never looked back. A single, three walks and a hit by pitch put Park ahead 2-0 early. Jolyn Lake then entered into the game in relief and induced two groundouts before back-to-back singles added two more runs and gave them a 4-0 lead.
They also added runs in the next to innings to extend the lead to six and MBU never quite got the offense going until late. Five straight singles with one out cut the deficit in half at 6-3. However, Park starter Scotlin Hurley retired the final two batters to end the game.
The Spartans continue AMC play tomorrow against William Woods. First pitch from Fulton is set for 1:00 pm.
