Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS -- [GAME 1 BOX] [GAME 2 BOX] William Woods pitching stymied the Spartan offense Saturday afternoon, as Missouri Baptist dropped both games of a doubleheader 3-0, 2-1.
Allison Waskow shutout the Spartans in game one while allowing only two hits. Meanwhile, a two-RBI triple from Brailee Schulte put the Owls ahead 2-0, a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Payton Anderson and Sarah Strothkamp were the only two Spartans to manage hits in the game and MBU never posed much of an offense threat.
Waskow didn't walk a single batter and finished off MBU 1-2-3 in the seventh to finish her complete game. William Woods added its final run in the fifth inning on two hits. Andrea Chessor finished with a line of six hits and three runs in six innings.
Chloe Jennings stole home on a double steal with Strothkamp to give MBU the early 1-0 lead in the finale, but the Owls answered back with a two-run third and went on to win it by that score. A triple from Hillary Hengtes tied the game at 1-1 and William Woods then took advantage of an error to take its 2-1 lead.
MBU tallied three hits the remainder of the game, but never advanced the tying run past first base. Anderson led the offense with a 2-3 performance while Chessor allowed just the two runs on five hits in her six innings of work.
The Spartans continue AMC play on Monday at home against Lindenwood-Belleville. First pitch is set for 2:00 pm.
