CHESSOR SHINES IN WIN OVER LYNX

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. LOUIS -- [BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] Andrea Chessor tossed a complete game shutout to lead Missouri Baptist past Lindenwood-Belleville 1-0 Monday afternoon in game one of the two team's doubleheader. The Spartans dropped game two, 4-2.

Chessor allowed just three hits in her seven innings of work, while striking out two. The Spartans (26-22, 12-10) managed enough offense behind her to take home the win. Three pitchers teamed up for Belleville (32-15, 16-6) and allowed only three hits, but two of those came in the first inning.

Payton Anderson hit a two-out single to left field to start the rally. She then stole second and Amanda Williams brought her home with an RBI hit into the gap. The run put MBU ahead 1-0, a lead they maintained throughout.

That run came after the Lynx stranded two runners in the first inning. Chessor no-hit LUB in the final six innings after allowing three hits early on. Her dominance included a 1-2-3 seventh inning to seal the win. The victory snapped MBU's four-game losing streak and Lindenwood-Belleville's nine-game winning streak.

Chessor didn't quite regain her dominance in game two. She started the finale as well, and allowed two runs on six hits in two innings. After holding the top team in the AMC scoreless for seven innings, the Lynx managed a run each in the first two innings.

Nicolle Miskowicz singled with one out and Taylor Winn drove her in moments later when she also singled. Belleville went ahead 2-0 in the next inning when Hayley Franks homered to centerfield.

Winn went 4-4 at the dish in game two and also thrived inside the circle, allowing just two runs in seven innings on five hits. Three of those came in the final two innings, as MBU made things interesting trailing late. Down 4-0 after five, an RBI groundout from Pam Diaz score Rachel Garcia, who doubled, and made it a 4-1 game.

Cierra Liddick tossed a scoreless seventh to allow for a possible late comeback. Anderson started the inning with a single and was pinch run for by Jennifer Sparks. Back-to-back outs followed, but then Chessor delivered a double to right-center to score her. Down 4-2, the next batter Adrianna Ross represented the tying run. Winn got her to ground out to end the game and pick up the win.

Chessor had the lone multi-hit game of the day for the Spartans. Liddick allowed two runs on eight hits in five innings of work. The Spartans continue conference play on Wednesday against St. Louis College of Pharmacy. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm.
