Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] Missouri Baptist dominated NCAA Division III MacMurray College Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans routed the Highlanders 17-0 and 6-0 for a doubleheader sweep.
MBU (9-9) started things early in game one. Jordan Corby launched a home run to left field to plate Caitlin McNiff and put the Spartans ahead 2-0 in the first. The scoring continued later in the inning when Emily Robinson brought home two home with a bases-clearing single. Robinson brought herself home as well after an error from the left fielder made the ball trickle all the way to the fence. After an inning of play, MBU led 5-0.
Six more runs came across the plate in the second. Corby and Andrea Chessor each delivered RBI hits to up the advantage to 7-0 MBU. Chessor later stole home and Kaylee Schrand brought home two more a few batters later when she singled home Elder and Robinson. Run number 11 crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Rachel Galbraith.
Madison Bond delivered a big two-RBI base hit in the fourth to score runs 14 and 15. Chessor brought home the final two with a hit to bring the score to its eventual final of 17-0. Chessor also started inside the circle in game one and blanked the Highlanders in five innings. She allowed just five hits and struckout seven. Chessor, Corby and Robinson all had multi-hit games.
Delissa Dennison kept up the strong work on the mound in game two. She also shutout MacMurray after only allowing two hits in seven innings while striking out five.
The offense plated three runs in the third and three more combined in the following two innings. MBU scored its first run of the game off a MacMurray error and added two more when Galbraith singled two home to make it 3-0.
Pam Diaz scored in the fourth after leading the inning off with a hit. MBU also took advantage of a Highlander miscue to go ahead 4-0. In the fifth, Chessor doubled to left field and later stole home. Galbraith drove in the sixth and final run of the game when she singled through the right side.
Galbraith led the way in game two with a 2-2 performance and three RBI's. The Spartans continue non-conference play tomorrow on the road against Quincy University. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00 pm.
