Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [GAME 1 BOX][GAME 2 BOX] Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) took care of business against a Missouri Baptist team that was in need of a win. The Spartans allowed two late runs in game one and were unable to keep pace with the hot Trojan bats in 3-2 and 7-3 losses on Friday in Hannibal, Mo.
Missouri Baptist (10-12, 2-4 AMC) took an early lead with staff ace Andrea Chessor in the circle in game one, but a pair of runs in the sixth quickly changed the momentum for the visiting Spartans.
Missouri Baptist went out in front in the fourth as Chessor cruised through the first three innings. The senior allowed just one hit heading into the fourth as both teams broke through.
In the top half, the Spartans utilized a little small ball to push the first run of the game across. Meagan Elder singled to the left side and as Macey Wienstroer pinch ran, advanced to second on a Kayla Thoron sacrifice bunt to put the lead run in scoring position.
Rachel Galbraith singled-in the game's first run just moments later. The freshman from Edwardsville, Ill., batted Wienstroer in from second to give Missouri Baptist its only lead of the day.
The Trojans tied it in the bottom half thanks to back-to-back doubles from Jenna Duckworth and Haley Zeier to make it 1-1.
The game remained tied until the home team took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. A pair of singles to lead-off the inning, combined with Kristen Lee's RBI double, set the wheels in motion for the Trojans. Danielle Wilcoxon singled-in what ended as the game winning RBI moments later as Hannibal-LaGrange picked-up its third American Midwest Conference win of the season.
Rachel Galbraith led the Spartans in the effort. The freshman went 2-3 with one RBI in the game.
Game two was a different story as the Trojans made a statement in the early innings, one in which the Spartans were unable to answer. Hannibal-LaGrange dropped a four-spot on the board in the bottom of the second, which spurred a seven-run game and a sweep over Missouri Baptist.
The Spartans plated one in the first, and after three consecutive doubles in the top of the third by Chessor, Elder and Thoron, looked to have things figured out at the plate. That, however, was the extent of the damage that Hannibal's Jordyn Alford allowed as she snagged the win.
Elder, Thoron and Shelby Poropat led the Spartans in the doubleheader finale. The trio combined for eight of the 10 Spartan hits in the game.
Missouri Baptist will look to right the ship at Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) on Tuesday in a midweek clash. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Paragould, Ark.
