CHESSOR DAZZLES IN WIN OVER EVANGEL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE 1] [BOX SCORE 2] Missouri Baptist Softball split with Evangel University Wednesday afternoon in a tale of two different games. Andrea Chessor threw a one-hit shutout against the Crusaders in a 2-0 MBU win before Evangel turned the tables on the Spartans in a 16-0 route right after.

Chessor was absolutely electric in the opening game. She opened with two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 first inning and cruised on from there. The only hit she allowed was a one-out triple in the second to Megan Washam. From there, she buckled down to strike out the next batter and then forced Taylor Kister to ground out.

The Spartan offense back their ace up with runs in the first and fifth inning. Caitlin McNiff singled to start the first and advanced to second on an error. Jordan Corby sacrificed her over to third and one batter later, Meagan Elder delivered. The sophomore drilled a double down the left field line to plate McNiff and put the Spartans out in front 1-0.

Chessor continued to deal and the Spartans added another run in the fifth. McNiff got things going again, this time with a two-out walk. Corby followed with a double in the gap to score McNiff all the way from first.

Chessor pitched around two errors in the sixth and retired the Crusaders in order the following inning to pick up the win. Elder finished game one 2-for-3.

Game two was a completely different story for the navy and white. Evangel tagged MBU for nine runs in the first inning alone in their 16-0 win. Three errors didn't help the Spartans cause and after eight hits and sending 14 batters to the plate, EU led 9-0.

The Spartans managed only two hits of their own in game two and the Crusaders tacked on four more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth of the five-inning game.

MBU begins conference play Friday afternoon at home against Lyon. First pitch of the double-header is set for 1:00 pm.
