ST. LOUIS – [BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] Andrea Chessor powered Missouri Baptist to a sweep of AMC opponent William Woods Saturday afternoon. The senior tossed all 14 innings to help lead MBU to 3-0 and 3-2 wins.

MBU (13-13, 5-5 AMC) evened up its conference record with the sweep. They jumped out to an early lead in game one before playing from behind in the second.

Jordan Corby started things for the home team in the first with a single. A throwing error from the pitcher allowed Meagan Elder to reach and advance to second as well. The mistake put runners on second and third with one away for Kayla Thoron. Thoron lifted a fly ball to left to plate Corby and put the Spartans ahead 1-0.

The run proved to be all Chessor would need. The Evansville, Ind. native scattered five hits in the complete game shutout. She did however pitch around some trouble. Chessor battled back after allowing a leadoff double in the third and also stranded runners at the corners in the fourth.

The Owls also had runners at first and second in the sixth, but Chessor struckout Alli Massey swinging to end the threat.

Corby came through again in the fourth. She tripled home Caitlin McNiff, who singled to leadoff the inning, to extend the Spartan lead to 2-0. Chessor added another run in the sixth when she delivered a two-out RBI single. The hit scored Macey Wienstroer, who was pinch running for Elder. Elder walked with one out and a Kayla Thoron single followed.

In game two, MBU again jumped out to an early lead. Elder was hit by a pitch to start the two-out rally. Thoron then walked and Shelby Poropat continued the rally with a big hit. Poropat singled home the pinch runner Wienstroer to put the navy and white up 1-0.

William Woods (20-15, 6-6 AMC) finally got to Chessor in the second. The Owls plated two runs, also all with two outs. Amanda Bouchey kept the inning alive with a triple and Lindsay Van Tress contined it moments later. Van Tress hit a rocket to left that got past a diving Kelsey Dotson and to the wall. The hit easily scored one and Van Tress also scored for an inside-the-park home run.

The Owls led 2-1 momentarily, but not for long. Emily Robinson started the bottom half with a single to set the table. Rachel Galbraith bunted her over to second and with two outs, McNiff delivered. The freshman launched the ball into the gap for a triple to knot the game back up at 2-2.

MBU took the lead back the very next inning. Elder doubled to start it and Thoron followed with a single to put runners at the corners with no outs. The new pitcher Sierra Jacques then walked Poropat to load the bases. Jacques retired the next two, but a wild pitch gave the Spartans the break they needed. Thoron came charging home to put MBU back up 3-2.

Chessor continued to deal and the run proved to be the game-winner. She pitched around a leadoff double in the fourth and also worked around two errors to maintain the lead in the fifth. Ari Arnold flew out to center to end the game to notch the sweep.

McNiff and Robinson each had two-hit games in game two. The Spartans travel to Westminster College on Tuesday, April 4^th. First pitch is at 3:00pm.
