Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] Missouri Baptist got back to its winning ways Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans swept St. Louis College of Pharmacy 5-1 and 7-2 behind two complete games from Delissa Dennison.
Dennison pitched all 14 innings of the doubleheader sweep. She scattered six hits in seven innings while striking out seven in game one. MoBap (16-18, 8-10 AMC) struck first in the second on an RBI groundout from Meghan Mollet. The out scored Andrea Chessor, who walked to start the inning.
The Spartans tacked on two more runs in both the fourth and the sixth. In the fourth, Rachel Galbraith doubled in the gap to score pinch runner Madison Bond all the way from first. The hit extended the Spartan lead to 2-0 and Galbraith later scored after another RBI groundout from Mollet.
The lead stood at 5-0 after the top of the sixth. Chessor reached on an error to ignite the rally before her pinch-runner Amber Mobbs made her way around the bases. Diaz sacrificed Mobbs to second and after a fly out, she stood at third with two away. The next batter Kelsey Dotson reached on a perfectly placed bunt to score Mobbs and up the lead to 4-0. After an error, Caitlin McNiff singled home Dotson from second base and MBU led 5-0.
Pharmacy got a run back in the bottom half, but that was all. Dennison picked up the win and four different Spartans recorded a hit.
Dennison allowed just one earned run and four hits in another complete game win in game two. MBU also jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the finale.
Mobbs got things going in the second with a base hit and later took advantage of an error to put the navy and white ahead 1-0. Two more runs came home in the third inning. Jordan Corby reached third base after an error in right and McNiff brought her home one batter later. Meagan Elder followed with a double and Chessor brought home pinch-runner Madison Bond with an RBI single to make it 3-0.
Kaylee Schrand doubled home Pam Diaz in the fourth for run number four. MBU failed to score in the fifth and sixth and STLCOP made things interesting in the bottom half of inning six. With one out, Lauren Wright singled home Sydney Vetter for the Eutectics first run of the game. Another followed on an RBI groundout and all of a sudden the tying run came to the plate in a 4-2 game. Dennison ended the threat however by getting Bethany Oberlink to pop out.
Three big insurance runs came across in the seventh. MBU scored three times on one hit and took advantage of one STLCOP error. A wild pitch and passed ball also hurt the Eutectics. The big hit of the seventh was a double from Ashton Pieron that scored Lucinda Gomez.
The Spartans are back at it on Thursday against Harris-Stowe at home. First pitch from Spartan Field is set for 2:00pm.
