Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] The Missouri Baptist bats came alive Thursday afternoon in a doubleheader sweep of conference foe Harris-Stowe. The Spartans went for 15 runs on 25 hits, winning game one 8-2 and game two 7-1.
The sweep helped MBU (18-18, 10-10 AMC) even out its overall and conference record. They've now won four games in a row.
In game one, the Spartans took advantage of two errors to jump out to a lead in the second. With two outs, a single from Macey Wienstroer put runners at first and second for Amber Mobbs. Mobbs, who hit leadoff, tripled into the gap to clear the bases and extend the MBU lead to 3-0.
Three consecutive hits in the bottom of the third helped the Hornets (1-19, 0-16 AMC) jump right back in the game. With two outs, Ariel Lipe tripled down the left field line to plate two runs and make it a 3-2 ballgame.
However, the combination of Delissa Dennison and Kaylee Schrand kept Harris-Stowe off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Dennison started both games and went six innings in game one while allowing two hits. Schrand pitched a perfect final frame with one strikeout.
A four-run fourth inning helped MBU quickly take control again. Mobbs and Schrand both singled with two outs to start the rally. An error followed to plate one more run and then Meagan Elder doubled home both Schrand and Jordan Corby to extend the lead to 6-2. An RBI single from Shelby Poropat gave the Spartans run number seven.
Stephanie Worth, Poropat and Rachel Galbraith all singled to start the seventh inning and Worth eventually scored on a base hit from Ashton Pieron. Mobbs, Elder and Galbraith all recorded two hit games.
MBU scored the game's first seven runs in game two. Wienstroer got the scoring started with an RBI double in the second inning to score Schrand. The Spartans tacked on three more runs in the third. Elder and Poropat each had RBI hits in the inning, as did Schrand.
Poropat also singled home Corby, who had a base hit earlier in the inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Worth homered in the sixth to tack on another and Kelsey Dotson scored the final run after Elder reached on an error. Dotson led MBU with a 3-3 performance in game two. Worth, Schrand and Poropat also had multi-hit games.
Dennison allowed just two hits in five innings and Schrand pitched the final two, allowing just one hit and one run. The Spartans are back in AMC action on Monday, April 17th against Lyon. First pitch is set for 2:00pm.
