SPARTAN BATS SILENCED AGAINST EAGLES

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. LOUIS – [BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] No. 19 Williams Baptist quieted the Missouri Baptist bats Friday afternoon. The Spartans dropped both games, 2-0 and 8-1, after failing to get much going offensively.

WBC (19-7, 12-2) hurler Laura Helmich provided a dynamite performance inside the circle in game one. Helmich no-hit the Spartans while striking out seven.

The MBU offense couldn't get anything going, but Helmich's counterpart, Andrea Chessor, did her best to keep the game close. Chessor shutout the Eagles through the first three innings until Helmich came through again, this time with the bat.

With two outs, Helmich homered over the right field fence to score Jessica Dobbins. Dobbins singled to lead off the inning. The blast put Williams Baptist ahead 2-0, as Helmich gave herself all the run support she'd need. Chessor finished the game allowing just two earned runs and four hits in six innings of work.

The two teams went toe-to-toe for the first four innings of game two. However, the Eagles broke out for eight runs combined in the fifth and sixth. WBC took a 3-0 lead in the fifth after stringing together three hits and taking advantage of an MBU error.

Jordan Corby put MBU on the board in the next half-inning when homered to cut the deficit to 3-1. Williams Baptist answered right back however, scoring five times on four hits in the sixth to break the game open. Brooke Mason led the Eagles on the day with a 3-4 performance and two RBI's.

The Spartans will look to get back on track tomorrow when they travel to Henderson, Tenn. to take on Freed-Hardeman. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
