SIEVERS, CORBY EARN SOFTBALL ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

ST. LOUIS-- MBU Softball standouts Shelby Sievers and Jordan Corby were named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Softball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday morning.

Acknowledged as one of the most selective and prestigious awards in college athletics, the Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, be an important starter or reserve, and have completed one full year at their current institution.

Both players played a key role in 2021, leading MBU softball to a third-place regular season finish in the AMC – the program's highest conference finish since 2008.

After transferring in from Lindenwood-Belleville, Shelby Sievers established herself as the ace of this year's pitching staff. In 20 games, the junior held an ERA of 2.48 (third-best in the AMC). She threw 98 innings and finished with an 8-5 record. Sievers also contributed offensively with three home runs and 14 RBIs. She finished second on the team in batting average (.394) and hits (26). In the classroom, Sievers will enter her senior year with a 4.0, majoring in Criminal Justice.

Jordan Corby put a cap on a memorable five-year career with another solid campaign in 2021. The Spartans' regular starting second baseman since 2017 led the team with a career-high .449 batting average.  The former Edwardsville HS product finished her career fifth in program history in runs scored (99), second in steals (38), and sixth in RBIs (85).

Corby finished her undergraduate work in the spring of 2020, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science. She majored in Business Administration and minored in Management. She began her work on an MBA in the fall of 2020 and will take a 4.0 into her second year of the program.

Sievers and Corby were two of 18 softball student-athletes from NAIA-District 3 that will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, Second- and Third-Team (if necessary) Academic All-America selections will be announced on Monday, July 26. In 2020, senior Ally Gischer became the second player in MBU softball history to earn Academic All-America status joining Danielle Bayer in 2013.
