Mayson DeRousse was named the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on Monday. This represents DeRousse's second career AMC Field Athlete of the Week honor after earning the distinction on Dec. 6 for his work at the Olivet Nazarene Open.
DeRousse made the most of his first go-around in the heptathlon this year. The senior from De Soto, Mo. captured first place out of 12 participants and hit the NAIA qualifying mark with a final score of 4,578 points. In the process, DeRousse won the pole vault (4.60m) and long jump (6.46m) while registering four new multi-event personal bests in the 60-meter dash (7.40), high jump (1.87m) 60-meter hurdles (9.34) and 1000-meter run (3:10.33).
The Maryville University transfer has now qualified in two separate events including the heptathlon and pole vault. His mark of 4,568 points (4,601 with converted times) currently ranks eighth nationally in the NAIA Top Performance List.
As a winner at the conference level, DeRousse is now eligible for the NAIA National Men's Track Athlete of the Week award, which will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
