SOFTBALL CLOSES OUT PFX SPRING GAMES WITH FOUR GAME WINNING STREAK

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Missouri Baptist softball capped off their Florida trip Saturday with a pair of wins, defeating Concordia (Mich.) in the early game and College of Saint Mary (Neb.) in the evening game.

GAME ONE

After failing to seal the deal Thursday, MBU never trailed in Saturday's rematch. After a quick 1-2-3 inning for Cardinals, MoBap got the offense rolling in the bottom of the first. Lead-off hitter, Madalyn Bone, singled down the third base side and advanced to second on a single from Ellie Wessel. With two runners on and no outs, Shelby Sievers hit into a fielder's choice, advancing Bone to third. Sievers stole second to put two runners in scoring position with only one out. Kolby Brake put the Spartans on the board first with a single to right center, advancing Sievers to third and scoring Bone. Brake, however, was thrown out at second trying to stretch the play. Kaylee Morris was then walked before stealing second base. While Morris stole second, Sievers was able to swipe home plate as the catcher attempted to throw Morris out giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals responded in the top of second scoring one run to cut into MoBap's lead. The game remained at 2-1 in favor of MBU until the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs and nobody on, the Spartans found a pair of insurance runs. Sievers singled to center and advanced to second on the throw. With one on and two out, Brake delivered a strike to left field to put the Spartans up 4-1. Both teams only left one runner on base, and neither would score for the remainder of the game as pitching dominated. Sievers picked up her sixth win of the year, allowing five hits, and one run, while striking out three and only walking one during a full games work.

GAME TWO

In their final game of the PFX spring series MBU took on the Flames of College of Saint Mary (Neb.) looking to get back to .500 for the first time this season and finish PFX spring games on a four-game winning streak. MBU scored 10 runs on 10 hits to down the Flames, 10-4. Haley Tate earned the win allowing only five hits during a complete game. Eight Spartans recorded at least one hit and three Spartans recorded a home run. Kolby Brake led the way for the Spartans, picking up a homerun and two singles over four plate appearances. AnnaBeth Batson and Shelby Sievers also recorded a homerun in the contest.

MBU Softball's winning streak will be put to the test as (4) Free-Hardeman University comes to town. The doubleheader is scheduled for Mar. 22 at the Spartan Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
