SPARTANS WIN THREE AGAINST INDIANA UNIVERSITY-SOUTH BEND

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Missouri Baptist Softball wins three of four games on Thursday and Friday during the PFX Spring games. The Spartans also won three of their first four PFX spring break games bringing their spring break record to 6-2.
 
GAME ONE
 
In the second game of four against the Titans of Indiana University-South Bend, MBU registered 14 hits on their way to 11 runs. During the top of the second inning Haley Tate got on base with a single right back up the middle before being advanced to second on a bunt by Sydney Berry. With a runner in scoring position, catcher AnnaBeth Batson delivered. Batson found a hole in the defense on the right side to score Tate to give the Spartans an early 1-0 lead.
 
In the top of the third MoBap go the bats going again picking up four hits and three more runs. Ellie Wessel led off the inning with a single to center field and was advanced off a single by pitcher Shelby Sievers. Kolby Brake took advantage of the runner in scoring position with a double to center field that scored Wessel and put pinch runner Jordyn Pearson on third. Kaylee Morris then grounded out to second allowing Pearson to come home. MBU took an early 4-0 lead after the top of the third.
 
IUSB refused to roll over scoring three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning cutting the Spartan lead down to one. The game remained quiet until a double off the bat of Sievers in the top of the fifth kick started the Spartan offense. Brake doubled scoring Sievers before Morris singled scoring Brake. After a fly out, Isabella Schlemmer reached on an error that advanced Morris to third. Berry smacked a single right past the shortstop allowing Morris to score and Schlemmer to advance into scoring position. Batson grounded out but managed to advance both runners. With runners on second and third Madalyn Bone sent a single right back up the middle allowing Berry and Schlemmer to score, extending Mobap's lead, 9-3.
 
In the top of the sixth Wessel once again led off with a single. After a fielder's choice led to Wessel being out at second and put Sievers on first. Brake continued to see the ball well, this time putting it over the outfield wall for a two-shot homerun. MoBap failed to register another hit in the inning and led 11-3 going into the bottom of the sixth. ISUB failed to produce any runs in the bottom half of the inning, thus ending the game early as MBU led by 8 or more runs. Sievers picked up her fourth win of the season and third of the break.
 
GAME TWO
 
Concordia (Mich.) spoiled the Spartans four game winning streak, but the Spartans had the lead throughout the contest. Concordia struck first in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead but failed to capitalize more on their four-hit inning. After navigating the danger MoBap responded with a pair of runs. Batson singled to right center before Bone singled to the left side allowing Batson to get on third and into scoring position. A sac-fly off the bat of Wessel allowed Batson to come home, and advanced Bone to third to tie the game at one apiece. Sievers followed up with a bunt down the first base line to score Bone and reach safely. Brake hit a single to advance Sievers to second, but the inning would end after a groundout by Morris.
 
It took until the top of the fifth inning for Concordia to respond, where a solo home run tied the game at two. The game would remain tied at two until the bottom of the sixth were Batson scored Tate with a sac-fly to give the Spartans the 3-2 lead late.
The top of the seventh spelled trouble for MoBap as Concordia managed to score three unearned runs on three hits, and two errors. The Spartans were unable to respond in the bottom half of the inning, dropping the game 5-3.
 
GAMES THREE & FOUR
 
On Friday MBU played a pair of games against IUSB. In the early game MBU won 8-4 with 11 hits. Seven Spartans registered at least on hit. Bone led the way with two singles and a triple. Morris went a perfect 2-2 on a pair of singles and Tate hit a three-run homerun during the sixth inning to all but put the game away for the Spartans. Sievers allowed six hits on the way to her fifth win of the season and fourth of spring break.
 
The evening game went according to plan for the MoBap as well as they recorded 11 hits for six runs. Eight Spartans recorded a knock. Brake started a perfect 2-2 with a homerun before they walked her the rest of the day. Sievers picked up three hits in four tries including two singles and a double. Morris and Wessel also had two hits apiece. Tate earned her second win of the season with her first also coming against IUSB on Tuesday, as the Spartans won 6-1.

MBU finishes their spring break trip to Florida with a pair of games on Saturday, Mar. 19 against Concordia (Mich.) at 10:00 AM (EST) and College of Saint Mary (Neb.) at 12:15 PM (EST).
