ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist women's lacrosse sophomore Lydia Cornett netted a first game hat trick on the field and the first weekly award of the season for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) off of it, the conference announced on Tuesday.
 
Cornett scored the first two goals of the Spartans' season in the opening game 14-12 loss to No. 4 Keiser University before finishing off her three-goal day in the fourth quarter. The attacker from Defiance, Mo. did so on a 100 percent shooting percentage, was credited for six draw controls, and also had a caused turnover, which was enough to earn the week one Defensive Player of the Week award for the KCAC.
 
Cornett capped off a 2022 season with a KCAC All-Conference second team honor following a freshman year in which she scored 23 goals and had 35 points for MBU. The now sophomore is picking up where last season left off, earning a place in the starting lineup and making her mark in the game against Keiser on Saturday.
 
As the KCAC Defensive Player of the Week, Cornett will be eligible for the NAIA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, which will be announced on today.
 
The Spartans are in action again on Thursday, Mar. 2nd at 4:00 pm against No. 1 Benedictine College.
