CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — On Saturday (Jan. 13), the Missouri Baptist University Men's Track and Field team competed in thirteen events at the South East Missouri State Redhawks Invite, where they took home fifth place as a team.
The Spartans individually produced outstanding performances in both the track and field contests.
Graduate student Mayson DeRousse earned first place in the pole vault competition for the third time this season with a 5.05 meter vault.
By reaching this distance, DeRousse matched his personal record set at the Frigid Bee Invite in December of 2023.
After he executed his vault with precision and strength, DeRousse also partook in the long jump competition, where he sprung 6.48 meters and landed himself at fourth place.
Dual-sport athletes, Donovan Denslow and David Fletcher, found success in the 3000 meter run.
Denslow (8:38:73) raced past 12 other fierce competitors into the second place standing, and Fletcher (9:06:06) followed close behind, taking sixth place against runners from Lindenwood University ( NCAA Division I) and Bethel University (NCAA Division III).
In the 400 meter dash, newcomer Austin Tilley (57.77) took first place in his fleet, and received eighth place overall.
Junior Jordan Walker-White participated in the shot put event, in which he propelled the ball 13.90 meters. With this throw, he earned 13th place out of 40.
Another notable performance comes from Camden Woolbright, who set a personal record of 4.30 meters in the pole vault competition.
After their triumphs over the weekend, the men's track and field team highly anticipate their next meet on Saturday (Jan 20) at the IC Snowbird Invite, hosted by Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill.
