JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — On Saturday (Feb. 3), members from the Missouri Baptist University Men's and Women's track and field teams competed in the Illinois College Jim Green Invite where two Spartans took first place in their events, and others hit personal records.
Freshman Conner Coffey made waves at the competition, placing first in the men's triple jump (13.61 m) and seventh in the men's long jump (5.87 m).
Ashley Grothaus also took first place in the women's pole vault, landing at 3.05 m.
Charlie McCallister, Warren Gann, and Emma Lawson hit PRs in the men's mile run, men's shot put, and women's weight throw. McCallister ran a time of 4:55:57, shaving about three seconds off of his previous record. Gann hit 15.20 m in the shot put, and Lawson threw 11.51 m.
Senior Brianna Sansoucie excelled in the women's 60 m hurdle, landing at third place with a time of 10.45.
In the men's 200 m run, Brayden Bauman (23.94) finished 13th out of 64, and Brandin Dodd (24.68) finished 32nd.
On the women's side of the 200 m, Laine Cottrell ran a time of 28.03, and Julianne Hansen finished at 28.19. Cottrell took 10th place, and Hansen took 12th.
Austin Tilley (54.81) also did well in the men's 400 m, finishing at 11 among 26 competitors.
Jordan Walker-Wright reached 14.70 m and placed fourth in the men's shot put, and he finished 6th in the men's weight throw (15.20 m). Collin Hutson also took ninth in the men's shot put (13.26).
Sophomore Lillian Harris (12:01.47) ran the women's 3000 m for the first time in her collegiate career, and she finished fourth out of 10 opponents.
The Spartans will compete again in the 9th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic on Friday (Feb. 9) in Pittsburg, Kan.
