No. 17 MBU Wins 12th Consecutive Set in Sweep Over MVC

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – No. 17 Missouri Baptist University extended its winning streak to six and won its 12th straight set on Monday night, rolling past Missouri Valley College in straight sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-21) inside the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC. The Spartans improved to 19-5 overall and 11-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

As a team, Missouri Baptist hit .288 with seven aces and nine total blocks, while holding Missouri Valley to .023 hitting.

Fernanda Perini led all hitters with 10 kills on .529 hitting and added six total blocks.
She raised her season percentage to .426, which puts her third highest in the NAIA, and her 1.31 blocks per set puts her ninth in the nation.

Gabi Jakubowska and Allana Capella each finished with nine kills, and Kassie Lee posted six kills on .500 hitting. Summer McDonough added three kills and six digs. Valentina Navarro helped the offense with 30 assists, three digs, and a service ace, while libero Julia Reis Pereira collected 14 digs.

MBU dominated from the opening serve, hitting .452 in the first set behind efficient play from its front line. Perini and Lee combined for eight kills in the frame and used an 11-1 run to push MVC to the brink. Capella added a kill at 22-11 before Jakubowska served up an ace, and Navarro found Perini to end set one 25-15.

The Spartans kept the pressure on in the second set, jumping out to a 9-5 advantage on kills from Perini and Jakubowska. Navarro spread the offense evenly, assisting on 11 of MBU's 16 kills in the frame. A 5-0 run midway through the set, capped by a kill from McDonough, put the Spartans comfortably ahead before they sealed the 25-15 decision on a Navarro kill.

The third set featured tighter play, with Missouri Valley briefly taking a 19-18 lead before MBU closed on a 7-2 run. Freshman Tiia Heikkinen and Madison Moore each contributed late kills, while Elina Arsov delivered a key ace to push the Spartans ahead 23-21. A bad set and an attack error ended the match.
